The Ecology Co-op joins forces to form international group Myllium
Specialists addressing global nature challenges have come together to form Myllium
Over 400 experts from seven firms are collaborating to innovate and lead complex projects supporting people and the planet
The Ecology Co-op is one of the founding members of the expanding group
The Ecology Co-op, a specialist in Ecological Impact Assessment and Biodiversity Impact Calculations, has become a founding member of Myllium, a newly formed international group of specialist firms within nature, climate and sustainable development.
“It has been a real pleasure to become part of Myllium and to be involved in the processes that have helped to shape such an exciting new venture with like-minded businesses that are focussed on solving problems for the benefit of nature and society. It allows us to remain who we are, while strengthening our ability to collaborate, scale, and deliver the highest quality work in helping to solve increasingly complex challenges", says Paul Whitby, Managing Director of The Ecology Co-op.
Meeting the global demand for nature expertise
Nature degradation represents an existential threat, creating an urgent need for effective solutions to mitigate and reverse the impact. Addressing it requires collaboration and shared expertise to scale effective solutions for protecting and restoring nature.
The formation of Myllium also meets an accelerating global demand for advanced nature expertise. This shift is driven by evolving regulation, rising investor expectations, and a growing recognition that biodiversity risk represents a material and direct impact on businesses worldwide.
Local expertise. International reach.
Myllium brings together over 400 specialists to share innovation and experience in methodology, data, and technology. By combining niche expertise - ranging from ecology and landscape planning to environmental law and strategic advisory - the group provides the scale and international reach required to lead complex projects for sustainable land and water management.
As a founding member, The Ecology Co-op continues to operate under its own brand and leadership, while gaining access to:
An international network of leading experts
Shared innovation in methodology, data and technology
The capacity to collaborate on larger, cross-border projects
For clients, this means broader capabilities and deeper specialist expertise, combined with the same trusted local presence and relationships.
A collective built on shared values
Myllium derives from the Nordic word meaning fertile ground, echoing the root-like structure of mycelium – the network that connect many parts into a stronger whole. The founding members are Tyler Grange and The Ecology Co-op in the UK, Altenburg & Wymenga in the Netherlands, and the Sweden-based firms Ecogain, Calluna, EnviroPlanning and Örnborg Kyrkander.
Underlining their long-term commitment to this vision, all current owners of The Ecology Co-op, and the other founding firms, have re-invested to become shareholders in Myllium. This ensures a stable foundation for the group’s mission to support sustainable growth for people and the planet.
Leadership perspectives
Katarina Walter, Group CEO of Myllium, said:
“By coming together as a culturally aligned collective with a shared purpose, we’ve become even better and stronger. Importantly, while benefiting from our collective strength, we’re also preserving each independent company’s identity and entrepreneurial spirit. By pooling our knowledge across disciplines and geographies, we are perfectly positioned to support even the largest international clients in an increasingly complex environment.”
The Ecology Co-op’s Managing Director, Paul Whitby, added:
“I am thrilled to be able to announce that the Ecology Co-op is part of Myllium. Being able to work with like-minded companies within the group, share experience, resources and capabilities is a dream come true. Everyone in our team is really excited about what lies ahead and the opportunity to collaborate more with our partners. Whilst our core identity remains the same, we are now part of something bigger and bolder, on a journey to making a positive global impact for nature”
