A Day in the Life of an Ecologist

One of the best things about being an ecologist is the variety of work and that each day can be different.

Usually, an average day during the survey season might include a site visit in the morning for a Preliminary Ecological Appraisal (PEA) or Phase 1 Habitat survey. This could include meeting a client on site or undertaking the survey alone. The afternoon might include report writing, client liaison, discussing your findings with another ecologist in the team or other project work such as reviewing camera trap footage or bat logger data review and organising survey equipment for the evening.

The evening might include a great crested newt presence/absence survey, bat emergence or bat activity survey. Some days can be pretty long, but enjoyable!
